CURRENT WORK IN PROGRESS: 835 HOURS OF HOPE & DESPAIR
WORK IN PROGRESS STATEMENT: As we navigate through this creative journey, we want to emphasize that this work is still very much in progress and far from completion. In fact, we anticipate that it will take several more years to fully develop and realize our vision.
The performances and works-in-progress that you may have seen circulating in the performance circuit are part of our efforts to navigate the network and generate interest from funders, presenters, and individuals who share our passion for this project. While these presentations offer glimpses into our creative process and thematic exploration, they represent only a fraction of what "835 Hours of Hope & Despair" aims to achieve.
Our goal is to create a responsive, spontaneous, and agitating dance theater experience that interrogates the living social conditions that inspire violence in Black people. This goes beyond surface-level examinations of violence and delves deep into the emotional and societal factors that perpetuate harm across generations.
We understand the importance of garnering support and interest from individuals like yourselves who have the ability to contribute to and champion groundbreaking artistic endeavors. Your involvement in our journey will not only provide essential resources but also help us amplify our message and reach wider audiences.
As we navigate the performance circuit, we recognize that this work is far from complete and will require several more years of development. Our current presentations serve as a means to navigate the network and garner interest from funders, presenters, and individuals who share our commitment to addressing social injustices.

835 HOURS OF HOPE & DESPAIR (1st) Works in Progress performance.
Our first ever works-in-progress performance was presented at the first ever Black Aesthetics: Imagine Otherwise event curated by Malcolm-X Betts. The performance took place on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, live and in person at Judson Memorial Church. This performance marked the first time that new collaborators Chloe Marie and Artist Kwami Winfield performed together under TNMOT AZTRO, signaling a new direction for the production company.
835 HOURS OF HOPE & DESPAIR (2nd) Works in Progress performance. LGBT CENTER NYC January 14+15th 2023 as part of the OUTFRONT! Fest.
CONCEPTUAL’S: Nestled within the heart of a whimsical hodgepodge world, where the charm of the Midwest collides with the salty breeze of New England, lies a fantastical store like no other. Picture stepping into a realm where the eclectic vibes of Ocean State Job Lot meet the surreal landscapes of "My Own Private Idaho," pumped with a little “Coyote Ugly” styling, all infused with the eerie nostalgia and humor of "Courage the Cowardly Dog." 835 Hours of Hope & Despair is a responsive, spontaneous, agitating, dance theatre experience that interrogates the living social conditions that inspire violence in Black people. Not the conditions that inspire singular acts of violence —acts that can be dated and historicized— but the irrational urge to hurt, a volatile emotional state that spans generations. Using critical analysis, comedic “transposition persona,” and black queer American rags to riches stories, each performance circulates black, radical, HIV+, trans, nonbinary traditions and mindsets. Through frantic funny dialogue, sweeping dance phrases, ambitious costume changes, commentary on academic texts, we intend to reset creative potentials as ways to explore america’s radical tradition of violence.
